What is Google Sandbox?

A:
It is a filter introduced by Google in March 2004 and its role is to downgrade any new website emerged on the World Wide Web till it proves its viable role for a longer period of time. Sometimes new websites get high ranked till they get sandboxed. After a while, when the newly created website proves its existence for a longer period of time i.e. usually at least for 3-4 months with gaining good quality backlinks and continuously updated with new content, it would finally and most probably get out from sandbox and get some rankings for related keyword terms.
Read the comprehensive definition of Sandbox Effect on Wikipedia.

Reasons why Google implemented the Sandbox?

The most widely and accepted reason why Google started to sandbox newly created websites is the fight against spam techniques used by many webmasters trying to get high rankings and earn profit in a very quick period of time. That's why Google thought it would be trustworthy to implement a probation period for each newly created website. They have long noticed that those who are fraudulently trying to get top rankings usually are creating thousands of new websites with thousands of backlinks. By getting them sandboxed, the Google team can more easily filter out these websites which are actually violating Google's Terms of Service.

The Google sandbox skepticism

There are still people especially webmasters who are not accepting the Sandbox Effect and have contradictory opinions about all what is being said.

How can I check if my website is in Sandbox?

Your website is most probably in sandbox in case it is nowhere found for some specific keyword terms related to your niche despite the fact that you have already collected some good backlinks. Usually the site still has no any PageRank value which is also considered a good reason your site is still in the sandbox. You shouldn't care of any penalty from Google, to encourage you, make a search for your domain or company name and most probably your site will be listed. The Sandbox Effect is targeting mostly the highly competitive keyword phrases which are profitable.

Rumors about the Google Sandbox

There are rumors that by subscribing to one of Google's advertising program like AdWords or AdSense, it can take your site out from sandbox or at least shorten the sandboxing effect. These are just theories and a myth.

What can be done to get out of Sandbox?

Very briefly, it is all about patience and hard work by continuously improving your website with new content as well as getting quality inbound links from same related authoritative websites.

Will I get top ten rankings after remove of Sandbox?

Your ranking position after you get out of Sandbox, it much depends on the quality of backlinks you have accumulated as well as the competitiveness of the industry your site is involved. In case there are not so many competitors and the content of your site is highly valued by the search engine, you might get top ten rankings as soon as the dampening factor is removed however these cases are extremely rare as there are very few industries or niches with low competition.
