About Jagger algo update
In 2005 there were a few number of algo update cycles also known as Jagger 1 (16th Oct), Jagger 2 (27th Oct) and finally Jagger 3
(4th Nov).
It turned out to be a different algorithm update compared to his predecessors like Florida and Hilltop. With this new 'algo
update' the generated SERPs were expected to constantly update themselves with a greater degree of flux and change.
What was new that Jagger algo update brought?
There were three main reasons Jagger 'algo update' was implemented:
- to deal with manipulative link-network schemes and with sites generated with scraped content
- made it possible to for the spider to read more file types and documents
- to allow and account for new methods of site acquisition beyond the use of the spider Googlebot
The Jagger algorithm made its first appearance in September 2005 and finished in early November. Many websites were hit hard by
this 'algo update' because of the inappropriate linking schemes they were using.
It turned out that many webmasters misinterpreted what links actually are and how Google use them to rank pages and they gathered
tons of inbound links without taking in consideration their 'relevancy'.
Google is also applying filters to historic data of all the websites collected in its index thus he knows much more about a web
pages linking to other web pages than the webmasters who actually added those links. From now on Google is carefully analyzing who
is linking to a particular page as well as who is linking to.
With the mass adoption of blogs webmasters and search engine marketers started to exploit this opportunity and many scraped spammy
content appeared which had a negative effect on SERPs.
With this new Jagger update Google also solved the problem with scraped content when CSS was used to hide information. Also, now
it was possible for spiders to read audio and video content, the shopping tool Froogle started to integrate with Google Local and
merging with Google Maps. It was also supposed that Google started the first steps to include personalized data into the search
results. And another important aspect is that Google is weighing the importance and relevance of a website by paying much attention
on visitor behavior.
