Google's Local Business Center
Mar 14, 2007
Google has added new features to its Local Business Center where any business be it a small one or major organization can make
himself appear on Google Map. There are millions searching in Google Map on a daily basis and it costs nothing to get your company
listed reaching new customers.
These new features allow business owners to contribute with more content and the ability to upload and edit photos around their
listings as well as selecting the business category they belong like restaurant, hotel or automobile painting. In case a business
organization moves from one location to another the new built in features will also let them move their locations on Google Map.
The newly built in features will also provide business owners with detailed site analytics with number of clicks generated from
Google Map.
These features are beneficial both for business owners who don't have their own website and this way they don't have to worry about
design and hosting and also a good opportunity to drive more traffic to businesses that already have a website of their own.
It is getting widely popular bringing small businesses online by providing simple but beneficial tools to establish a web presence.
At the Kelsey Group's Interactive Local Media conference in November last year, Google's head of SME product development Dan
Rubinstein talked about the new Website development tool dedicated to small businesses called Hosted Business Pages. This happened
simply because a significant drop off in the AdWords account creations and intended to help out small businesses providing them
small landing pages with basic information such as phone numbers, addresses and simple images.
The main point behind these free offerings is to bait as many small businesses as possible to get an online presence hoping that
on long term they would evolve into paid advertisers. Al this is called the Webification of SMBs and shows a continuous growth and
there is a large opportunity to bring more businesses online.
