'Adsense'

This is a contextual advertising method used by Google on its network of publishers's websites. Publishers are adding these ads embedded in the content of their pages trying to get some revenue in case someone clicks on those ads. Visit Google's Adsense.

'AdWords'

AdWords was created by Google for advertisers which follow an auction model with the amount of money paid for a single click, also known as PPC (pay per click) or CPC (cost per click). The maximum bid will get top rankings either on the right side or just above the natural listings in the main area. In 2007 AdWords has introduced the PPA (pay per action) model, in which the main idea is that website owners can set for which particular action (click) they would pay for. The action category can include a subscription to a newsletter, an online purchase etc.

'Affiliate Marketing'

You can be an affiliate marketer which means that you are advertising some product or service on your website which are sold by the main merchant's website. This way, merchants can expand their market by accepting others to subscribe to their affiliate program. As an affiliate usually you will get paid (commission based) only when a purchase has been made through your website. There are many success and failures in the affiliate marketing business. Most of them are not taking seriously their activity and hope to get rich in a few weeks then quit very quickly realizing that it isn't that easy as it looked like at the beginning.

'Alexa'

Alexa.org is a Company owned by Amazon.com with the main activity of providing website traffic statistics with the help of their Alexa Toolbar installed on many PCs.

'algorithm (search engine algorithm)'

Algorithms are used by search engines to sort search engine result listings by the relevancy of the pages whenever a search term or phrase is entered in the search box. Major search engines like Google, keep their algorithm top secret and are constantly improving it to best meet their customers' expectations which means the best search results for them. Nobody knows exactly when the next algo-update will occur but as soon as it happens, rumors are spreading when certain websites lost their rankings and others were pulled up in the SER listings.

'allintitle'

This is a search command used in Google for ex. allintitle:baby dolls will return pages which have the term 'baby doll' in their title tag.

'allinurl'

A special search command used in Google which will result in pages that have the term in their URL address for ex. allinurl:internet marketing will result in pages that have that term in their domain name (URL).

'alt tag'

This is an alternative and descriptive text about a picture added on a webpage. In case the picture is not present, then the descriptive text in the alt tag will appear. Also when we are moving our mouse over the image, the text will also appear in a small box.

'anchor text'

Also known as link text, it is the actual text which is made active as a hyperlink leading to a webpage. Like in this example: keyword research which leads to an internal page of this website.

'authority'

In the web search industry, there are two websites which are in a way contrary to one another. An authority site is supposed to have many inbound links from other same related websites thus considered as authority sites from which everybody would like to get a reciprocal link from.
