Common used SEO and internet marketing related terms
'meta description tag'
This is a tag used in the header section of a web page not viewable on the page itself. You can add a description usually with
maximum 160 characters, describing shortly what that page is all about. Usually search engines pick these descriptions and add
them under the title in their result listings.
'meta keywords tag'
This is a tag used in the header section of a web page not viewable on the page itself. Keywords can be added which best describe
the topic of that page and for which website owners want to get ranked in major search engines. Most of the search engines now are
ignoring the content of this tag because very often it is overused!
'meta robots tag'
With this tag, you can instruct search engine spiders what to read and what to ignore.
'meta search engine'
Meta search engines do not have their own database; instead, they are gathering results of other search engines.
'mirror sites'
Sites with same content known as duplicate content available on different domain names. This technique is considered spammy
by major search engines. Mirror sites are used by authoritative websites as well. In this case the main reason they are mirroring
their website from other servers is to ease bandwidth load and increase availability to their files.
'most wanted response (MWR)'
A term coined by Ken Evoy, the MWR can be anything from a sale to a newsletter subscription on a website.
